Nottingham restaurant the Yacht Club has closed after less than eight weeks - this is what will replace it

A Nottingham restaurant, which opened less than eight weeks ago, has ceased trading with immediate effect.

Upmarket seafood restaurant, the Yacht Club, which opened in Maid Marian Way, served its final customers last night.

It opened on March 5 following a major refit of the premises, which used to be the Bear and Lace, and before that Chambers.

Inspired by London's top seafood outlets, the Yacht Club planned to bring something different to discerning diners with oysters and caviar and a host of other seafood and fish options as well as high quality meat dishes.

John Dhaliwal, who was at the helm of the family-run business, said: "It is with regret that the decision has been made to cease trading the Yacht Club.

"This has not been an easy decision, particularly given that the Yacht Club is still very much in its infancy and so has not really been given the opportunity to get established, but the premises won’t be empty for long."

Mr Dhaliwal, who is also co-owner of Indian restaurant, the Calcutta Club, a few doors down, added: "Calcutta Club has taken over the Yacht Club with immediate effect and will operate a high end Indian restaurant similar to the Calcutta Club, trading under the name of the Maharaja’s Retreat.

"The two businesses will be operated independently, with different menus on offer, giving guests a greater choice of where they can enjoy Indian fine dining cuisine."

The Maharaja's Retreat will open in May, on a date yet to be announced.
