Nottingham restaurant offers free pizza to people in need over Christmas

A Nottingham bar and restaurant forced to close by Tier 3 restrictions is offering free pizza over the festive period so no one has to go hungry.

The cash which would have been spent on Christmas decorations will be used to feed the homeless, vulnerable and elderly.

"Let us know and we will deliver them a hot pizza free of charge," said Sach Nijran, who runs Happy Dough Lucky, at the Lacehouse in Broadway.

He said: "It’s a challenging time for a lot of businesses right now – including ourselves. However we are in such a privileged position to those less fortunate and food is a key element to everyone's Christmas and can be taken for granted.

"We're all lucky enough to have a Christmas lunch each year and we want to be able to provide one for those who might not have much this Christmas. No one should go without food over the festive season.

"It is a sad reflection of the times we live in that there are so many people living in poverty.

"We just want to put a smile on their faces this Christmas. This initiative should really help after food banks and traditional food services for the homeless, such as voluntary drops, have been struggling as a result of the Government’s lockdown regulations."
