Nottingham restaurant in need of 'love and attention' to close for a month

A Nottingham city centre restaurant has closed its doors because it needs "a bit of love and attention." Browns Brasserie and Bar is set to have a "grand refurbishment".

The restaurant, in Park Row, was open for the Platinum Jubilee weekend but closed its doors at 3pm on Sunday, June 5, ready for a month-long makeover. It means families won't be able to book for Father's Day on June 19. The venue is popular for brunch, cocktails, afternoon tea and dinner with its fresh seasonal dishes and classic British comforts.

The restaurant chain moved into the former solicitor's office in 2011, after the building had been vacant for seven years. The property, a distinctive 19th-century Victorian villa, was transformed to create a bar, with a grand piano, dining area and an outdoor terrace.

The following year, Browns was given a special award from the Nottingham Civic Society, which commended the way they had restored the building and put it to good use. Hilary Silvester, from the society, said: “We so nearly lost this building to demolition and replacement by an office building which would not have fitted into the setting."

The restaurant will reopen on Thursday, July 7 at 5pm.
