Nottingham records highest number of weekly Covid-19 cases since start of pandemic

Nottingham has recorded its highest number of weekly Covid cases since the start of the pandemic, a new report shows.

According to Nottingham City Council's latest surveillance report, released every week, the city recorded 228 new cases of Covid-19 between September 21 and September 27.

This is the highest number of coronavirus cases recorded in the city in a week since the start of the pandemic in March.

It is also a sharp jump from the week before (September 14-21) when 138 cases were confirmed in the city.

The University Park, Lenton Abbey neighbourhood has soared into the worst affected part of the city, with Covid cases there rising to 102 as students begin a new academic year.

Radford has the second highest number of cases with 84 and The Park & Castle next with 71.

Eighteen neighbourhoods in the city have now recorded 50 or more cases of Covid since the start of the pandemic. This is a jump from 11 the week before.

The below graph shows the stark rise in cases across the city in comparison with previous weeks throughout the pandemic.

The report runs roughly one week behind and the most recent data is logged up to September 27.

In Nottingham since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,920 cases up to that date.

But the rate of cumulative cases per 100,000 population in Nottingham is still "significantly lower" than the average level in England, the report shows.

The data includes lab-confirmed positive cases of Covid-19 from pillar 1 (NHS hospital and Public Health England laboratories) and pillar 2 (swab testing for the wider population) of the Government's testing programme.

The surveillance report breaks down the number of positive tests for each MSOA - middle super output area - which are hyper-local areas used for census and data calculation.
