Nottingham ranks in Top 20 of healthiest UK high streets

Nottingham has been named in the Top 20 of the UK's healthiest high streets.

Researchers analysed amenities surrounding major UK high streets, awarding each city a score based on the healthy life choices, social interaction and mental wellbeing they promote.

The city ranked 19th in the list which revealed York in top spot and Peterborough as the worst, in 82nd place.

The number of vape shops, restaurants suitable for vegans and fast food takeaways were assessed.

The amount of gyms, libraries, green spaces, museums, betting shops and and access to GP surgeries were also taken into consideration.

The research was carried out by mortgage experts Bankrate.com/uk

Despite the number of pubs (121) fast food joints (58) and third highest number of vape shops (13) Nottingham rated highly, having 66 eateries suitable for vegans, 35 gyms, 11 leisure centres and seven green spaces.

Lucy Stanford, manager of Nottingham Business Improvement (BID) commented: “Nottingham city centre has so much to offer everyone and especially for those who are looking to live a healthier and sustainable lifestyle with a great range of shops, cafes, restaurants and leisure facilities.

"The high street has faced some tough times lately so it is great to see being recognised as one of the top 20 of healthiest high streets.”
