Nottingham pub undergoing revamp will be renamed The Playwright

A Nottingham pub has closed for a massive revamp that will see it reopen with a brand new name.

The Orange Tree will turn into The Playwright, a nod to Britain's greatest writer William Shakespeare and the pub's location in Shakespeare Street.

Artisan pizzas and bubbling pots of comfort food will be served - and as part of the makeover an open pizza kitchen with a wood-fired oven will be installed by the bar.

Cocktails will remain a big attraction and Bedfordshire-brewed beer will be on tap.

The changes follow a takeover by the UK brewery giant Charles Wells, under its Pizza, Pots and Pints brand.

The Playwright will reopen on May 23 at 5pm, with three nights of live bands and DJs.

On Sunday, May 26 the pub will be hosting the Dot to Dot Festival's BBC Introducing Stage - just as it has in previous years.

The former management team and staff have been kept on during the closure, and have been handed jobs at alternative sites until the facelift is complete.

Nottingham's Orange Tree is the first to undergo changes since the takeover. Refurbishment of pubs in Leicester and Loughborough are set to follow in the near future.
