Nottingham pub to close for two months to undergo £410k refurb

A Nottingham pub will close for two months after last orders on March 1 for a major refurbishment that will make it "the beating heart of the community".

The Whitemoor pub will be transformed into the "best family-friendly local in the area" with Strelley born and bred Callum Marshall at the helm.

Owners Star Pubs & Bars are investing £410,000 in the pub, in Nuthall Road, Bobbersmill.

The transformation will take until early May.

Inside, the layout will change making it more spacious, almost doubling seating from 55 to 90. There will be two distinct areas - a casual dog-friendly bar with three high definition TV screens showing Sky and BT Sports and a comfortable, stylish dining area.

The interior is being redecorated to give it a more contemporary look, with brightly coloured velvet-covered benches, fixed seating, comfortable chairs and freestanding tables in the dining area.

There will also be a darts board in the bar.

The kitchen is being overhauled to provide a menu of pub classics for diners and a menu for sporting events. A separate children’s menu will also be available with kid-sized cutlery.

Outside will also be getting a makeover, including a new courtyard garden and children’s play area at the back of the pub, and at the front a new 90-seater patio for alfresco eating and drinking with pergola and festoon lighting to add to the ambience.

The exterior is also to be redecorated in olive with a white flower illustration, a nod to The Whitemoor’s name, inspired by the local moor which was full of white flowers.

Callum’s plans for it become the beating heart of the community include weekly quizzes and regular live music as well as fun family days.

He said: “Having been brought up in Strelley, I know The Whitemoor of old, so when I heard there was an opportunity to take it on I leapt at the chance. I knew its potential as it’s on a main arterial route into the city and there are no real family friendly pubs like it nearby.

“I am really looking forward to moving back to Nottingham and becoming part of the community again and making The Whitemoor a hub locally and somewhere you can pop in for a drink or bite to eat or make an event of it, be it watching sport or the entertainment we’ll be putting on.”

Star Pubs & Bars' regional operations director, Alun Johnson, said: “We’re delighted to be investing in The Whitemoor to make a good pub brilliant. Its decor had become dated and tired.

"The investment will give it a new lease of life and provide local residents on their doorstep with a great quality local offering food, drink and entertainment which previously they would have had to travel to enjoy.”
