Nottingham pub announces plans for St Patrick's Day celebrations

St Patrick's Day is usually the busiest day of the year at Nottingham bar Southbank City with a party from midday to midnight as thousands of people descend on Old Market Square,

Since the country will still be in lockdown on March 17, there won't be any partying in the usual fashion but that doesn't mean the celebration is off.

While revellers won't be able to sink a few pints of Guinness at the pub in Friar Lane, St Patrick's Day 2021 will be celebrated with MC Richie Muir performing special rockdown during lockdown set for free online.

Southbank City director Tom Holodynsky said: "St Patrick's Day was one of the last days we were open last year due to the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic, things were a little more subdued last year obviously.

"Not being able to do it this year is a blow for us but also, more importantly the masses of people who come to the city every year to celebrate it. We didn't want them to think we'd forgotten about them."

Richie said: "It is the one gig that is permanently in my calendar and just like the guys at the venue and no doubt the community of Nottingham, I am gutted we won't be able to do it this year.

"However, I am super excited to still be able to perform from the venue online and hopefully people will watch along, join in and put their requests in the comments."

The gig can be watched live on Southbank City's Facebook page and their YouTube Channel SBC TV from 8pm.

"We have plans to launch all the info about similar celebrations for St George's Day soon, we have something really special lined up for that as well," added Tom Holodynsky
