How Nottingham is getting ready as pubs prepare to open again on July 4

The next stage of lockdown in Nottingham is moving a step closer with street markings being put down to prepare for queues outside bars and restaurants this weekend.

Pubs such as The Bell Inn, O'Neills and The Loxley have already put markings outside their venues to ensure that queues don't collide and people keep their social distance.

Restaurants such as Nando's have also done similar, with Bills just off Old Market Square also preparing an outdoor eating and drinking area for customers.

Nottingham's nighttime economy is set to be open for business on July 4, with pubs and restaurants doing a mixture of bookings and walk-ins.

Some pubs such as O'Neills have put a sign up explaining what will be expected when customers enter the venue, which includes ordering your drinks from an app once seated.

Some venues such as Rock City will be opening up their car park, named the Yard Bar, while Rescue Rooms will also be opening up their outside area for drinks.

Drinkers must prove they are not from Leicester or face being turned away in a city-wide bid to keep our lockdown neighbours out.

The strict new rule, which may mean punters have to bring their council tax bill out as proof of address, has been introduced amid fears people would travel from Leicester for a much-missed pint this weekend, as boozers reopen for the first time since March.

Leicester is currently under a local lockdown after a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.

While a number of venues have not put markings outside their venues, the Bell Inn even has markings for its small patio area.

One marking says: 'Not long to go now.'

Police said they are anticipating, just like when shops such as Primark opened, that customers will be queuing early for the 11am opening.
