Nottingham pop-up so popular that a permanent shop is now opening

A new vintage clothes shop will be opening in Nottingham with bargains galore. COW Thrift is a new off-shoot for the popular brand, which already has two stores in the city in Carlton Street and Exchange Arcade.

The latest store, all on one floor, will open later this week in Hockley, on the street leading on from Goose Gate. It will be trading seven days a week.

Selling clothing at more affordable prices, the thrift shop follows the success of Bubble Vintage, a pop-up from the same owners as COW at Exchange Arcade. Despite being temporary, it ended up staying at the unit for two years.

"It was working and it was really good but the shop was too small and we were finding more people were gravitating towards Hockley because that's the area for vintage," said assistant manager Tiegan Donovan. "We've moved and started to make COW Thrift a bigger and better version of Bubble.

"We are at more of an affordable price point and we are doing more deals like bundles. We will still have premium stock, which we class as stock bought from other companies that was going to landfill, at a more affordable price for people. For example if you find a leather jacket instead of it being £150, it will be £80 or lower."

Shoppers will be able to buy two items priced £6 individually for £10; £12 each will be two for £20 and £18 each will be £30 for two. The shop will have a mix of everyday wear and more dressy items for going out at night.

Tiegan said: "We have tried to section it on so one side is men's, one side is women's but we've also tried to mix it up a little bit as well just because some who work in COW stores are gender fluid.

"If you can't find it here you might be able to find it in any of our other COW stores. When we do our events we're trying to get a lot of small businesses involved. We don't want it to just be COW stock - we want to make sure other small businesses get opportunities to sell their items in our stores.

"We are hoping to open on Thursday (May 11) but at the latest it will be Friday. It will all be posted on our social media. It's a very small team trying to get everything sorted so it's taken us longer than we wanted it to but we are so close now we can taste it."

The COW shop in Exchange Arcade has now become more of a designer outlet for the brand, selling items by Burberry and Prada.
