Nottingham Panthers aim to put disappointing results behind them

Nottingham Panthers defenceman Kelly Summers says the team are ready to put disappointing defeats by Cardiff and Fife behind them ahead of a three-game weekend.

Panthers travel to Dundee Stars in the Elite League on Friday, which is then followed by Challenge Cup games with Manchester Storm at home on Saturday and on-the-road on Sunday.

Summers scored his first goal of the season in last Saturday’s home defeat by Fife and is well aware improvements need to be made.

“We know we have to be better, especially at home,” said Summers. “But we’re ready to put that behind us and we’re fully focused on next weekend.

“This week we’re getting into the flow of things and we just have to be prepared.

“Three games in a weekend I know is not that normal for over here. We do have to take one game at a time and not look too far ahead.”

Summers was one of a number of players who spent time after training for a special Skate with the Panthers this week, which is a monthly community event at the Motorpoint Arena.

Schoolchildren from Sneinton C of E Primary School and Oakfield School took to the ice and also interrogated the players with a question and answer session.

“It was great,” continued Summers. “They were making us think back to when we first started playing on the ice.

“I haven’t been to school in a while so I had to do some quick maths in my head.

“It’s always a lot fun going on the ice and skating with them. I think for some of them it was their first time on the ice, so that was nice.

“It’s fun to give a bit back to the community and, who knows, maybe we saw a future Panther out there on the ice.”

Panthers host Manchester at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday night (7pm face-off) and tickets are available via the club website at www.panthers.co.uk.
