Nottingham nursery boss confirms case of coronavirus

A Nottingham nursery boss said some children and staff must self-isolate after having a case of coronavirus.

Tom Holmes, Managing Director at Stepping Stones Day Nursery in Arboretum said they have been "extremely proactive" after a positive, asymptomatic case was reported late on Monday evening.

Mr Holmes said parents of the children that had come into contact with the confirmed case were spoken to as advised by Public Health England.

He said: "On the advice of Public Health England, the children and staff that had come into contact with the positive case have been told they must isolate for 14 days from their last contact with the confirmed case, we have provided them with the date that their child can return to nursery.

"We have have been very regimented with our measures and have had extremely strong policies and procedures in place from when we reopened in June.

"Unfortunately the case in question was asymptomatic until Saturday when they began to feel unwell, they got a test the same day and it came back positive late Monday night, no symptoms displayed at nursery so unfortunately there was very little we could do to limit the exposure."

Mr Holmes said the nursery is now doing everything it can to ensure there are no further cases.

Children and parents are temperature checked before entering the nursery and are not allowed in if the thermal recognition camera shows the temperature is above 37.8 degrees.

Parents and carers are now being asked to wear masks if they enter the nursery setting and hand gel must be used.

Mr Holmes added: "We deep clean the nursery every weekend as well as having an on-site cleaning team working from 17.30-21.30 each night.

I am more than confident that Stepping Stones is Covid-19 safe and that we are doing everything we possibly can to ensure the safety of our children, parents/carers and staff."
