Nottingham mum to deliver free Christmas Day dinners to 80 homes

A Nottingham mum-of-two will hit the road on Christmas Day to deliver free meals for those facing the day alone.

Mo Fayose, 45, of Basford, is set to hold her fourth Christmas Day dinner for those with nowhere to go on December 25.

But this year Mo and her team of volunteers will also be going out on the road to deliver Christmas dinners to 80 households struggling to attend their annual event.

The former mental health student nurse has already stocked up on a 20kg turkey, 20 kilos of chicken and beef and five kilos of gammon in preparation for the big day.

She said: "We have got 80 deliveries to do so far and it is growing by the days.

"These are people who can't get out of the house. They can't access things around them so let's come to them.

"We can spend 10 to 15 minutes with them, which will make their day, so they are not on their own.

"We are going everywhere - Bilborough, Strelley, Stapleford, Chilwell and Beeston.

"It is going to be crazy but that is the joy of it."

She said a full Christmas meal will be delivered to every home free of charge, with Mo picking up most of the cost, estimated at £2,500.

Mo will be delivering the food in her Mini and will be supported by 12 other drivers and 10 kitchen volunteers.

As well as Christmas dinner they will also get a dessert, which could be Christmas pudding, sponge cake or jelly and icecream.

She said many of the deliveries will be to homes of elderly people who may have lost their partner or suffer with social anxiety and can't leave the home.

She explained: "We have single people and couples, some who are caring for their partners who struggle to get out on Christmas Day.

"We have one who lost her partner three months ago and does not know how she is going to cope so we are going to visit her.

"Couples do not realise they have no one until they lose 'the one.' It is really tough."

As well as the delivery service, Mo will still host a Christmas dinner party at Bestwood Park Community Centre on Christmas Day.

The centre can cater for up to 50 guests who will also be treated to a free Christmas dinner, drinks, dessert, and entertainment.

There will also be an event held on December 22 for those who can't attend the Christmas Day party at Crossfield Court in Top Valley.

"I do it because I see the difference," she said. "It is staring you in the face - just see them smiling makes my day."
