Nottingham MPs called to Downing Street meeting over Covid restrictions

There are fears Nottingham could be about to be placed into Tier Three, alongside Liverpool and Lancashire, meaning pubs would have to close.

The city's MPs are meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson at 4pm today to discuss the next steps, which could mean pubs closing and non-essential travel banned, along with household mixing outlawed.

In Liverpool Tier Three has meant all gyms, salons and other close-contact businesses closed.

It has been reported that Lancashire will be allowed to keep gyms and leisure centres open.

It is not known which Tier Three rule woud apply to Nottingham.

For several days in a row, Nottingham has had the highest Covid rates in the country. All of Nottinghamshire is currently subject to Tier 2 restrictions.

The Government previously said all of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire would be treated as one area, to make new restrictions easier to police and understand.

However the Government then imposed restrictions on a borough-by-borough basis in Derbyshire, with Erewash and High Peak moving into new restrictions, but other areas escaping.

While the three Nottingham Labour MPs have been invited to the meeting, MPs in Nottinghamshire have not been, reports NottinghamshireLive.
