Nottingham MP given new role on Labour party frontbench as part of reshuffle

A Nottingham MP has been given a new role on Labour party's frontbench as part of a wider reshuffle by leader Sir Keir Starmer.

Nottingham North MP Alex Norris was previously the shadow health minister, but he will now work as part of the shadow levelling up team.

Lisa Nandy has been moved to shadow levelling up, housing, communities and local government secretary, and Mr Norris will work alongside her.

According to Labourlist.org, a party source described Mr Norris's move as 'an indication of our commitment to that work, one of our strongest and most agile b-cast voices'.

On Twitter, Alex Norris said: "[I'm] so excited to be joining Lisa Nandy's team, fighting for proper levelling up."

Sir Keir Starmer has now completed his appointments to Labour's frontbench after announcing a wide-changing shadow cabinet reshuffle at the start of the week.

Speaking to Labourlist.org, he said: "Building on our changes to shadow cabinet, the appointment of our shadow ministers reiterates that the Labour Party I lead is focused on working people’s priorities.

"We will relentlessly hold this Conservative government to account and will put forward our positive and exciting ideas for our country.

"Labour is back in business and ready for government."

Lord Vernon Coaker, a former Labour MP for Gedling for 22 years, remains as part of Labour's team for the Home Office, Ministry of Defence and a whip for the House of Lords.
