Nottingham man set to join cast of Love Island for 2022

A pharmaceutical sales specialist from Nottingham has joined the new cast of Love Island for 2022. Ikenna Ekwonna will join the popular ITV show which will return to our screens on Monday, June 6.

Laura Whitmore will host the series while her husband, Iain Stirling will provide the voice-over commentary. The new cast of islanders has been revealed ahead of the show's start in just one week. The new islanders will be heading to the Majorcan villa although it will be in a new location this year.

When asked what he will bring to the villa this summer, Ikenna said: "Hopefully, I’m going to bring spontaneity and excitement. I’m not really shy to speak to people and I don’t really care too much about what people think."

Ikenna has been working for Covid-injection manufacturers, Astra Zenecca prior to joining the cast of singletons in the island villa.

When he was asked about his romantic past, Ikenna recalled how he surprised one of his exes with a four-night stay in Barcelona but he admits that this was a lavish gift at the age of 19. He now thinks he spent far too much money on it.

"I took my ex on holiday for her birthday. We went to Barcelona for four nights and I was pretty young then, maybe like 19-20. It was for her birthday so she didn’t know about it. It was quite a lot of money to spend for that age," he shared.

ITV has not revealed anything about what we can expect to see but there will definitely be lots of drama. The show will air in its usual 9 pm slot every day. There will also be a recap episode on Saturday and after the episode on Sunday. Laura also presents a spin-off edition called Aftersun where she is joined by a celebrity panel to discuss all the drama from the week.

Other contestants that will be joining the cast this year include Paige Thorne, a paramedic from Swansea, Wales, Andrew Le Page an estate agent from Guernsey, Amber Beckford, a nanny aged 24, who comes from London and Gemma Owen, a dressage rider from Cheshire. other contestants include Tasha Ghouri, a dancer from York, Liam Llewellyn from Newport and Indiyah Polack from London.

Two of the contestants come from outside of the UK this year as Davide Sanclimenti hails from Rome although is currently based in Manchester and Dami Hope from Dublin in Ireland. Davide hopes to be the 'Italian Stallion' of the villa this year.

Dami, a senior microbiologist said: "This year I was kind of being more open to new things and I think actually that's why I put myself out there to get some new experiences. Love Island is a different experience, I will be talking to different girls, it might not go well with some, might go well with others, so it’s a fun experience."
