Nottingham kebab shop closes - and this is what will replace it

A Nottingham kebab shop has closed down two years after opening in the city centre.

Kani Kebabs moved into Chapel Bar in July 2019 after the owners spent six months redeveloping the shell of the building.

But the property won't be empty for long. Next week it will reopen as G's Tasty Bites, promising "quality, passion and taste".

Owner Gurpal Chohan has nearly 17 years experience in the food business, working with big name brands.

One of the two adjoining units will be serving burgers, pizza and grilled chicken - the other will become a franchised dessert shop further down the line.

Mr Chohan said: "We will have homemade gourmet burgers using our own blend of herbs and spice for the beef patties mix. We are going for the finest meat we can possibly source. We also want to cater for gluten-free and vegan.

"Chargrilled chicken breast will come with a choice of house sauces including barbecue, lemon and herb and chilli and there will be a full chicken, half and quarters.

"There will be a selection of homemade pizza. We are not going to charge extortionate prices. It will be reasonable but quality-wise equal to the likes of the bigger brands."

The stretch, between Upper Parliament Street and Old Market Square, is home to multiple chicken shops and takeaways including KFC, Roosters, Pepe's Piri Piri, Mega Munch and McDonald's.

Mr Chohan said: "For me as a proprietor for me it's about good quality food. It would be very naïve of me to say 'I'm new and I can do things ten times better' but being sensible, once we've got our menu 100% effective, we'll let the general public be the judge of that."

Finishing touches are being added to the property and staff are currently being trained ready for G's Tasty Bites opening day on Thursday, September 9.

The business will be open from 11am to 3am.
