Nottingham hospital trust installs new chair as search for next chief executive continues

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) has appointed a new chair for its board as it continues to search for a new chief executive.

The NHS trust announced today (Wednesday, January 5) that Nick Carver would replace outgoing chair Eric Morton from February 1.

Mr Carver arrives in the role two months after ending a 19-year spell as chief executive at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

Mr Morton, who was originally meant to step down later this year, brought the departure date forward as NUH continues with the process of finding a new chief executive after Tracy Taylor's exit last October.

The outgoing chair leaves the trust after joining in 2017.

Mr Carver, who will lead the process of finding a CEO, said he was "looking forward" to getting started.

“I have always believed that to lead is a privilege, especially at this time," he said.

"I am therefore delighted that I have been asked to Chair the Board at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

"I am convinced that the determination of the excellent people within the Trust, along with the support of our system partners will enable us to address the substantial challenges ahead."

Acting chief executive, Rupert Egginton, added: “We very much welcome Nick’s appointment. He brings a wealth of additional expertise to our Board and we are looking forward to working with him.”

After joining the NHS as a hospital porter, Mr Carver has enjoyed a 42-year career in the health sector, also holding senior roles in the East of England, West Midlands, West Country and South Wales.
