Nottingham grandmother 'crushed' by TV broker's offer for designer handbags on Million Pound Pawn

A Nottingham woman was left stunned after a TV pawn broker revealed how much her designer handbags were actually worth.

Brian and his wife Marlene were hoping to liquidate some of their assets and went on ITV's Million Pound Pawn looking for a deal.

The couple, who are both in their 70s, enjoy the finer things in life and have racked up an impressive collection of designer handbags and watches over the years.

Marlene decided to sell eight of her designer handbags including Gucci, Chanel and Vivienne Westwood, while husband Brian offered to part with three of his watches, Yorkshire Live reports.

"My favourite of all is Chanel," Marlene told viewers.

"Necklace is Chanel, my earrings are my favourite, my bracelet's Chanel, my shoes Chanel, my watch...oh no, that's Rolex."

The couple, who spent 15 years living in America, returned to England to be closer to family in 2016.

They are now hoping to put the money gained from a deal with Sheffield pawnbroker Dan Hatfield into a trust fund for their little granddaughter.

However, once Mr Hatfield had the watches and bags evaluated, they were shocked.

Marlene, who was hoping to get up to £6,000 for her beloved designer handbags, was only offered a couple of hundred pounds for each.

When Mr Hatfield told her, she said: "You are joking?!

"I've got this vision of what I'm getting for my bags, it's completely been crushed."

Experts evaluating the bags' worth explained that because they were mass-produced, it brought the value of them down significantly.

In the end Marlene went with Mr Hatfield's deal and sold them all for £1,065.

"I've lost on all of them. But I don't use them," said Marlene.

"So, you've got a deal."

Her husband Brian got £17,500 for his IWC, Omega and Tourneau watches.
