Nottingham Forest youngster on the impact of a change in managers at City Ground

Youngster Jake Taylor says the change in manager means a “fresh start” for him when he eventually returns to Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old midfielder is on a season-long loan with Scunthorpe United, having made the move prior to Sabri Lamouchi’s dismissal and the subsequent appointment of Chris Hughton at the City Ground.

He is yet to make his senior debut for the Reds, but is eager to further his development with the Iron, after spending last term on loan at Port Vale.

“For me, in terms of going back, it’s a clean slate again,” he said of Hughton’s arrival Trentside. “The manager doesn’t know you.

“If I do get the opportunity to go back, then I’ll try my utmost to impress him.

“In terms of Forest, it’s a clean slate. But my sole focus now is doing my best for Scunthorpe and trying to get as many games as I can.

“I was thankful to Sabri for giving me the opportunity to train with him in pre-season.

“I know the size of the squad he had and the job he had.

“He was honest with me that I wasn’t going to get the game time I’d want, so the loan option was one I went down.

“I’m thankful to him for being honest.”

Taylor made his debut for Scunthorpe earlier this month, in a 2-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers, playing the full 90 minutes.

And he did the same again yesterday, as his team were beaten 4-1 at home to Forest Green Rovers.

He impressed during his spell at Vale last term, notching seven goals in 25 appearances.

And he says he is happy to once again test himself in League Two.

Asked if he would have liked to have made a step up in divisions, he told BBC Radio Humberside: “It doesn’t bother me.

“My first aim is to go and play football matches, to improve my game. It doesn’t really matter to me at which level.

“If a club is going to give me an opportunity to play, then I’m going to go there.

“Thankfully Scunthorpe and the gaffer have seen something in me.”
