Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion have both taken players on loan from Benfica this season.
Alfa Semedo and Filip Krovinovic joined their respective teams earlier this season and they are both battling for promotion to the Premier League.
Semedo has struggled in the Championship, though, unlike his Benfica team-mate Krovinovic who has made 20 starts for Slaven Bilic's side.
Albion, who are in second place, have been the beneficiaries of two goals and four assists from the Croatian with rumours claiming that a €10 million bid could be in the offing to secure his services on a permanent deal.
For Semedo, it is highly unlikely a similar scenario will unfold with the central midfielder finding it hard to get into Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi's starting XI before the coronavirus pandemic put the breaks on the season.
The former Moreirense man has started just 10 matches for the Reds this season with a promising start halted by injury and now Portuguese media outlet Record, via Sport Witness, claim he will be sent back to Benfica in the summer.
He impressed as the Reds began the campaign with a run of one defeat in eight matches and even grabbed the winner at Swansea City in September.
But he has been limited to just six appearances since the February 1 defeat at Birmingham City.
Lamouchi has hit upon the winning formula of Ben Watson and Samba Sow in midfield, with Tiago Silva further forward.
Crucially, they are all Forest's own players and not on loan, further weakening the case for Semedo to stay at Forest for an extended period.
Semedo is expected to head back to Benfica in the summer.
