Nottingham Forest weakness identified as Steve Cooper names first Premier League starting line-up

Nottingham Forest fans have expressed the same concerns ahead of a nervous but exciting opening day back in the Premier League.

Steve Cooper has named his side to face Newcastle United at St James’s Park this afternoon, with big name signing Jesse Lingard among the new Reds signings making their debuts.

He is one of six new signings making their Forest debut. Dean Henderson starts in goal for Nottingham Forest, with new club captain Joe Worrall starting in the heart of defence alongside Scott McKenna and Moussa Niakhate as part of Cooper’s tried and tested 3-4-1-2 formation.

Harry Toffolo and Neco Williams will start as the wing-backs. Lewis O’Brien and Jack Colback are the two central midfielders, with Jesse Lingard playing as the one behind the two strikers. Sam Surridge and Brennan Johnson are the two forwards for Forest at St James’ Park.

Here’s what Forest fans have been saying about today’s selection:

Mardy Millennial: Still desperately need more players as that bench is very weak.

Red dog: Playing Sam Surridge as our main striker this season will NOT win us games. He he doesn’t like Awoniyi then he needs to get another proven striker in ASAP.

The Incredible Grump: First team is pretty decent. Subs bench looks very thin. We’re still about three players short for me.

Rocky red: Still a few players short as it stands. And some still not fit,but probably best side we could put out fitness wise.

Dominic Filkins: Solid team. Colback brings a bit of experience to the team and Cookie must be injured not to make the bench.

Kieran: Solid starting team! Excited to see some of the new boys in action. Lingard with a big point to prove

JP: This bench proves we need another 6/7 players innit, any injuries could kill our season.

Grant Fellows: Bench still looks like we need 2 or 3 more in. Happy with the 11 Surridge looked like his op worked.

Alexander Williams: And this is why we are still 2 or 3 signings away from a team that *looks* like competing.

Happy with that team? Have your say in the comments section.
