Nottingham Forest waste no time in appointing new manager following Martin O'Neill's sacking

Nottingham Forest have sacked Martin O’Neill after just five months in charge with former France international Sabri Lamouchi taking charge.

O’Neill had been appointed by Forest in January as he succeeded Aitor Karanka at the City Ground

The former Ireland boss led the club to a ninth place finish in the Championship as they finished four points off the play-offs but Lamouchi has now been given the job.

A club statement read: “Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce that Sabri Lamouchi has been appointed as the club’s new head coach.

“Lamouchi was most recently in charge of Rennes in the French top flight, taking them from the relegation places to qualify for the Europa League in 2017-18.

“He also led the Ivory Coast to the 2014 World Cup as the top-ranked side in Africa and the quarter-finals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations, and won the Qatari Cup and reached the Asian Champions League semi-finals during his time at El Jaish SC.

“Lamouchi also had a distinguished playing career, making over 470 appearances for clubs such as Monaco, Parma, Inter Milan and Olympique Marseille as well as appearing 12 times for the French national team.

“The Frenchman will be assisted at Forest by six new members of staff who will support the first team.”

The Guardian reports that a number of key players turned against O’Neill with his assistant Roy Keane leaving his role last week.

He has now paid the price with his job as Forest act quickly to put a new man in place ahead of the 2019/20 Championship season.

Forest visit Elland Road on Saturday August 10 in Leeds United's first home game of the season.
