Nottingham Forest warned about social distancing by EFL after worrying testing results

Nottingham Forest have been warned by the English Football League to ensure that they are observing social distancing rules after 10 positive tests for coronavirus from eight Championship clubs were announced on Saturday night.

Preston North End striker Jayden Stockley has emerged as one of the players to test positive, while Fulham, Middlesbrough and Cardiff have also confirmed positive cases.

With the majority of Championship clubs still intent on resuming the season on June 20, the increase in positive tests has strengthened fears over another possible delay which could threaten the season's restart.

As a result, the EFL's medical advisor, Dr Richard Higgins, has written to all 24 Championship clubs, including Forest, with a stern reminder that players must observe social distancing and personal hygiene ahead of Monday's vote to return to full-contact training.

Higgins wrote: "During the latest group of tests you will have seen that there has been a slight increase in positive results.

"This may just be a coincidence, however, as government guidelines are relaxed, all players and staff must remain acutely aware of their responsibilities in regard to social distancing and personal hygiene.

"At this stage we strongly advise everyone to maintain social distancing at all times other than during contact training sessions and most especially when outside of the training ground.

"Indoor environments such as shops are one of the higher risk places and so as advised previously, should be avoided.

"Until the infection rate drops significantly, transmission will continue to occur frequently between people."
