Nottingham Forest v Blackburn Rovers player ratings: Samba's heroics rescue Reds, defenders impress

Nottingham Forest returned to winning ways as they beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 at the City Ground.

Alex Mighten's goal proved the difference between the two sides, while Brice Samba was required to make a crucial penalty save.

Here's how Leigh Curtis rated the Reds players.

GARIBALDI RED: Paul Hart on how analysts are used in football

Brice Samba: Post came to his rescue right on the stroke of half-time as Adam Armstrong’s effort cracked the woodwork. Made a brilliant save from the striker’s penalty after bringing down Nyambe. 8

Cyrus Christie: Had his hands full with Armstrong when the striker drifted out wide in the first half, but had an excellent game overall. Was so close to scoring when an excellent long-range strike cannoned off the post. 8

Tobias Figueiredo: Has really come into his own in recent weeks and this was another commanding performance in the heart of the back four, and partnership with Worrall is a formidable one. 7

Joe Worrall: Another week and another fantastic performance from the centre-back.  Reads danger early and his positioning is usually spot on.  Dealt well with the presence of Sam Gallagher. 8

Yuri Ribeiro:  Made some fine penetrating runs in the first half when space opened up before him and defended his side of the pitch well despite having some tricky customers to deal with. 7

Cafu:  His job was to protect the back four and he did an admirable job in that respect. His understanding with James Garner in the holding midfield role looks so natural and balanced. 6

James Garner: Was so close to his first goal in a Forest shirt when his header looped off the crossbar but showed his composure and understanding in his defending responsibilities. 8

Anthony Knockaert: A real livewire and had it not been for Ryan Nyambe who cleared his shot off the line, he would have had the goal he deserved. So dangerous when he cuts inside. Threat waned after the break. 7

Filip Krovinovic: Worked tirelessly in the number 10 role and took a couple of whacks for the cause. Been a classy addition to the Reds’ midfield and plays with great energy. 6

Alex Mighten: Like Knockaert, he showed deft feet on numerous occasions and was rewarded with a goal having been quick to latch onto a second ball. Was replaced in the second half. 7

Glenn Murray: Used his experience to good effect to win free-kicks one of which nearly led to a goal. Was a whisker away from adding a third goal in a Forest shirt. 6

Subs

Lyle Taylor (Murray 58):  The forward could have helped himself to a goal when Christie’s shot hit the post and came back out to him, but couldn’t get the angle right. 6

Luke Freeman (Mighten 68):  The midfielder did not see much of the ball as the visitors enjoyed a lot of possession in the second half. 6

Ryan Yates (Cafu 68):  Great to see the midfielder back in action after his calf injury and slotted in seamlessly having replaced Cafu. 6

Tyler Blackett (Knockaert 87): Came on to help protect Forest’s lead as Blackburn attempted to snatch a late equaliser. N/A
