Nottingham Forest v Barnsley player ratings: Ameobi struggles, Grabban rues missed chance in draw

Nottingham Forest had to settle for a point as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Barnsley.

Here's how Leigh Curtis rated the Reds players at the City Ground.

Brice Samba: Only save he had to make of note in the first half was from Michael Helik, but was much busier after the break and made a super stop to deny Herbie Kane. Forest's best player, which tells you everything.  7

Cyrus Christie:  Had a glorious chance to open up the Barnsley defence in the first half, but got robbed in possession when a two v one was on. Marginally improved after the break.  5

GARIBALDI RED: The more important transfer window for Nottingham Forest is in the summer

Tobias Figueiredo: Enjoyed a solid game alongside Worrall, although a breakdown in communication with his team-mates was his biggest concern as there were occasions two men challenged for the same ball. 5

Joe Worrall: A dependable figure in the heart of the Forest defence and was never really troubled throughout as Barnsley were kept at range. Did the job you would expect from a player of his quality. 6

Gaetan Bong: Flashed a volley over the bar in the first half and was also booked. Hardly seen as an attacking threat and when he did make it into the final third, his delivery was poor. 5

Samba Sow: Produced some crunching challenges and largely did an excellent job of protecting the back four as Barnsley tried to find space between the lines behind him. Needed replacing due to injury in the second half. 5

Cafu: Cruised through this game, with his job to keep it nice and simple. But there were times when he took the safe option when he could have taken a bit more of a risk. 5

Anthony Knockaert: Will be kicking himself at not taking a shot in the first half when clean through. Instead passed to Grabban, who was offside. Not like him. Usually makes the right decision. Spurned a great chance after the break.  6

Filip Krovinovic: Game threatened to pass him by on his debut, but that wasn’t his fault as Forest found it difficult to find him in space. When he did receive possession, he showed  real quality. 6

Sammy Ameobi: Produced a couple of moments of quality in the first half as he opened up the Barnsley defence which led to a great chance for Grabban. But very quiet otherwise. 4

Lewis Grabban: Squandered the best chance of the opening 45 minutes when he ran clean through. A player of his quality should have hit the target. Symptomatic of Forest’s problems in attack. 4

Subs

Fouad Bachirou (Sow 58):  Plenty of effort and endeavour in trying to shut Barnsley down. 5

Alex Mighten (Knockaert 87): Not really enough time to make an impact as he was introduced so late on in the game.  5

Loic Mbe Soh (Figueiredo 90): Had nothing to do as he was introduced in stoppage time due to an injury to Figueiredo. 5
