Nottingham Forest transfers, squad depth and City Ground work key issues for next season

As the dust settles on the 2022/23 season, it is time to reflect on what Nottingham Forest got right on their return to the Premier League after a 23-year exile and areas for improvement as they look ahead to the 2023/24 campaign.

It is also time to assess the performances of Reds manager Steve Cooper and club owner Evangelos Marinakis, while also taking a look at some of the issues impacting on the longer term future of Nottingham Forest, such as redevelopment of the City Ground.

And as with any summer, the transfer market also looms large in our big Forest Forum with questions on the amount of cash the club needs to be spending before the window closes on September 1, and the areas of the team that are in particular need of strengthening as the Reds look to improve on their 16th-place finish.

There is also a look at the cost of following your club, with the price of season tickets under particular scrutiny after Reds fans played a crucial role in helping Cooper’s team avoid a quick-fire return to the Championship by generating such an intimidating atmosphere at the City Ground.

Reflecting on Forest’s nail-biting season, Cooper said: “Staying in the league has given us a real good opportunity now to build this football club even more than what we’ve done in the last two years. I, and we, are so determined to do that.

“The players need a complete rest now, and the staff around the team are the same. But for myself and others, we’ve got to make this a real productive summer so that when the guys come back they see a club that’s aiming to improve.”
