Nottingham Forest transfer target breaks silence on speculation

Nottingham Forest transfer target Lawrence Shankland has been discussing the speculation surrounding his future.

The Dundee United striker was first linked with a move to the City Ground in February last year, with the 24-year-old making the move to Tannadice Park from Ayr United in the summer.

Shankland was again mentioned as a possible target throughout the summer before he put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with Robbie Neilson's side.

Following a blistering start to the Scottish Championship season, Shankland was linked to Forest once more with 18 goals to his name by November.

Premiership giants Celtic and Rangers were also mentioned, while Stoke City have also been touted as a possible destination.

Shankland, though, says the speculation doesn't affect him with the 24-year-old even more time to ponder a move given the coronavirus has forced football to postpone all games until the end of April at the earliest.

But the 24-goal hot-shot says it's never been on his mind.

“Not at all, it wasn’t something I was really thinking about before," he told the BBC's Sportsound programme in Scotland.

“I was just focused on hopefully getting this league won.

"We were kind of stuttering our way towards it with a wee bit of drop in form and not picking up great results.

“That was my main focus – to get back to winning ways.

“Obviously this interruption has caused a wee bit of a delay to that.

"But hopefully when we eventually get back we can start well and get it won.”
