Nottingham Forest transfer rumours rated - goalkeeper linked, Reds striker attracting attention

Nottingham Forest boss Martin O’Neill is facing a big transfer window as he looks to put together a squad he thinks is capable of challenging for promotion.

Having missed out on a top six spot this time around – and having had little time in which to work during January – the Northern Irishman will be aiming to put his stamp on the Reds dressing room.

And the rumour mill is already in full swing now the Championship campaign is over.

We’ve had a look at the latest Forest transfer gossip, and the chances of those moves happening.

Benjamin Siegrist

Who? The 27-year-old goalkeeper has had an impressive season for Dundee United, helping them reach the Scottish Championship play-off final.

Where? North of the border, the Daily Record claim Dundee want to tie down the Swiss to a new deal, amid interest from Forest, Crystal Palace and Hull City. Siegrist’s current contract is set to expire next summer.

What? O’Neill will know all about the shot-stopper from his time at Aston Villa, where Siegrist started out his career in England. And with Dundee having missed out on promotion to the top tier, he might be available at a reasonable price.

But it remains to be seen whether the Reds boss is in the market for a goalkeeper.

Given first-choice Costel Pantilimon was one of the best performing custodians in the division this term, if the club are looking to bolster their options in that area of the pitch, it would perhaps be as cover or competition for the Romanian.

Karim Ansarifard

Who? The striker made 12 appearances for Forest after making the move as a free agent in November, though only three of those came in the starting XI.

Where? Football Insider report European sides Hamburg and Besiktas have now taken an interest in the Iranian, having previously linked him with a move to Scottish giants Rangers.

What? Although he did pretty well when given more of a chance in the final few weeks of the campaign, Ansarifard has struggled to establish himself as a regular at the City Ground.

O’Neill has previously spoken about how having a 20-goals-a-season forward in your ranks can be key to a promotion push, so it could be that up front is an area he might want to strengthen.

With Lewis Grabban and Daryl Murphy – as well as the injured Hillal Soudani – already on the books, it would not be a surprise if Ansarifard does end up heading elsewhere this summer.

Kamil Grosicki

Who? The Polish winger has been in decent form for Hull City, racking up nine goals and 12 assists for them this term.

Where? The Sun have claimed Grosicki has caught the eye of O’Neill, and that the Reds chief is now ready to make an approach for the Tigers man – speculating on a £2.5m fee.

The 30-year-old has another year to run on his contract at the KCOM Stadium, though it has been reported City have an option to extend that by a further 12 months.

Turkish team Istanbul Basaksehir are also said to be interested.

What? Although still tied down to a deal, Hull Live suggest the club could be prepared to cut their losses and let Grosicki leave on a free transfer this summer.

It is believed he will have limited market value entering the final year of his contract and it is claimed the Tigers are in no financial position to extend his deal. The player himself is also said to be eager for long-term security, which would only come with a move away.

Adding another creative winger would be smart business by the Reds, if they want to push at the top end of the table – and Grosicki would certainly fit the bill.

If he is available at a decent price, or (even better) on a free, he could be a good one for Forest to target.
