Nottingham Forest transfer news: Leeds United plot to beat Reds to 'number one target' - report

Former Ilkeston striker Che Adams is one striker Nottingham Forest are keeping tabs on as the January transfer window approaches, with the Reds believed to be in 'pole position' to sign him.

Should the £15m Southampton striker be made available by Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl then a clutch of Championship clubs will likely be interested.

One of those will be Leeds United, if reports in recent weeks are to be believed.

The Whites, currently top of the Championship ahead of their New Year’s Day showdown with second placed West Brom, look set to lose Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah with the Gunners likely to recall the 20-year-old striker having been frustrated with his lack of opportunities.

According to a report in The Athletic, should the England Under-21 star return to the Emirates then Marcelo Bielsa will make Adams his top target.

While Forest have been linked with Nketiah, his most likely destination appears to be Bristol City, with the Robins able to offer guaranteed football, something Leeds have been unable to provide, while Forest would be unable to make similar assurances.

Forest are keen to find help for 12-goal striker Lewis Grabban after Rafa Mir's loan move from Wolves has so far failed to see him find the net.

Adams’ future has been the source of great debate in recent weeks after a dry start to life on the south coast.

He’s yet to find the net since his big money summer move from Birmingham City, and had been on the fringes of the Saints’ side owing to the impressive form of Danny Ings, though he did play in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at St Mary’s.
