Nottingham Forest transfer news: Djed Spence decision as agent breaks silence on £9m claim

There are now less than six weeks to go until the January transfer window opens, and there is plenty on the agenda for Nottingham Forest.

It was a hectic summer and it looks like there will be more activity in and out of the City Ground this new year.

Brazilian midfielder Gustavo Scarpa is already set to arrive, with his contract at Palmeiras expiring at the end of next month. Forest have been linked with a host of other players, too, while some departures could potentially be on the cards. Below is a look at the latest Forest transfer news.

Tottenham 'in pole position' to deal Nottingham Forest transfer blow

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in 'pole position' to sign Ruslan Malinovskyi in January after Nottingham Forest were previously linked with the Atalanta player.

The Ukraine international was expected to leave the Italian side during the summer transfer window when Spurs were also credited with an interest in the player alongside the Reds. Malinovskyi didn't secure a move away from the Serie A side, though, and has since featured in all but one of the club's matches this season.

After the disappointment of failing to secure a transfer to the Premier League, the attacking midfielder has not hit the same heights as last campaign so far when he scored half a dozen goals and assisted a further five. Just one single strike and a pair of assists were contributed before the World Cup.

Nottingham Forest face key January transfer decisions in fight for Premier League survival

The January transfer window is fast approaching, and it has the potential to be an important one for Nottingham Forest.

With 22 signings made in the summer, the Reds are unlikely to go on a shopping spree of quite the same scale. Head coach Steve Cooper has regularly spoken about the challenges posed by such a huge overhaul.

It has taken time for the group to gel, but having shown signs of cohesion developing prior to the World Cup break, Forest won’t want to rip up the progress made by bringing in another raft of signings. Nevertheless, they will weigh up whether the odd key addition could make the difference in the battle for survival.

Agent makes £9m transfer admission amid Nottingham Forest links

The agent of Pablo Maia has said that it ‘won’t be bad’ for his client to stay at his current club until the end of the season, despite links with a move to the Premier League in January.

Nottingham Forest are one of a few Premier League teams to be credited with an interest in the 20-year-old ahead of the winter window. Reports claim that the Reds are ready to beat off competition from the likes of Fulham for the player.

Maia has come through the youth team at Sao Paulo, and has caught the eye with his performances in Brazil’s top division. And the player’s agent Junior Pedroso has revealed that there has been interest in his client, although neither are in a rush to move away from Brazil in January.

Djed Spence transfer update as Nottingham Forest hero waits on Tottenham decision

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte could make a final decision on the short-term future of Nottingham Forest promotion hero Djed Spence after working with him over the World Cup break.

The wing-back was a key player in the Reds’ charge towards the Premier League last season when he was on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough. Forest were keen to make the deal permanent in the summer, as they prepared for the Premier League, but the player instead completed a move to Tottenham.

The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal with the North London club, but has found game time hard to come by this season. Spence has played a total of just three minutes over three appearances in the Premier League.
