Nottingham Forest transfer confirmed as Reds defender goes on trial

Here are your latest Nottingham Forest headlines on the morning of Tuesday, 21 March.

O'Brien lands loan move

Lewis O'Brien's transfer saga is finally at an end after Nottingham Forest officially confirmed his short-term loan to DC United.

The midfielder was left in limbo after his January move to Blackburn Rovers fell through on deadline day as the paperwork was not delivered on time. The Championship club appealed to the EFL, but were denied.

A move to Major League Soccer was mooted as the transfer window is still open in the United States. After almost two months of sitting on the sidelines after being left out of the Reds' Premier League squad for the second half of the season, he has now moved Stateside.

The terms of the deal will see him join Wayne Rooney's team on loan until mid-July. There is an option-to-buy clause included in the deal, just as there was in the proposed Rovers transfer.

"Lewis deserves this opportunity to go and play football," Forest manager Steve Cooper said after the loan was announced.

Lamouchi hands Reds defender trial

Nottingham Forest defender Osa Solomon has reportedly been handed a trial with Championship side Cardiff City.

The move would see the 19-year-old link up with former Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi, who took over at the Bluebirds in January. The Welsh club are currently hovering just above the bottom three in 21st place.

Lamouchi was in charge at the City Ground for just over a year before being sacked in October 2020 after a disastrous start to the season. He then moved to Qatari side Al-Duhali before moving to Wales.

And Allnigeriasoccer.com report that Solomon is set for a trial with Lamouchi's side from Tuesday, March 21, with a view to a permanent move during the summer transfer window. They claim that the trial will last for five days and will include a test game to decide whether he is offered a contract with the Bluebirds.

Injury boost

Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté has been spotted training with his national team in what could be an injury boost for the Reds.

The Senegalese player has made 13 appearances for Forest this season since arriving from Crystal Palace in the summer. But the 33-year-old is currently out injured having not featured for Steve Cooper's side since the World Cup.

However, the Reds could be about to receive a big injury boost ahead of what will be a crucial final 11 games of the Premier League season.

Kouyaté was left out of the Senegal squad on March 17th, but journalist Saikou Seydi took to Twitter to reveal the Nottingham Forest man was among those taking part in the squad’s first training session of the international break.

Hart's relegation verdict

Former Nottingham Forest manager Paul Hart still believes his old club have enough to stay in the Premier League.

The Reds have not won in six games, taking two points out of 18 in the process, after losing 2-1 to Newcastle on Friday in the final game before the international break. That leaves them 16th in the Premier League, two points above the relegation zone with four points separating 12th placed Crystal Palace and bottom of the table Southampton.

Despite a dip in form which includes an end to a nine match unbeaten run at home, Hart says Forest can still avoid relegation.

"I think Nottingham Forest are doing very well. I've got to be honest. They're fortunate to have a manager like Steve Cooper," he told the Garibaldi Red podcast.

"It's a terrible, terrible season the first in the Premier League. We've seen Norwich, Fulham and clubs like that find it very hard."
