Nottingham Forest told they must back Martin O'Neill in the transfer market

Former Wolves captain Keith Andrews has called for another busy summer at Nottingham Forest at the end of the season.

Martin O’Neill’s side suffered a fourth defeat in a row against Sheffield United on Friday, losing 2-0 in a match that also saw Yohan Benalouane sent off and Jack Colback issued a three-match ban after picking up his 15th yellow card of the season.

Sat in mid-table, Forest will be well aware that they have work to do if they are to mount a serious challenge for promotion next season and Andrews believes that O’Neill has to be given a free reign to shuffle his deck when the transfer window opens.

“I think it’s a tricky decision for the club and Martin , he signed an 18-month deal and where they are right now is they signed 16 players last year for substantial funds. What do they do?” he told Sky Sports.

A welcome return for Claudio Yacob despite latest Nottingham Forest defeat

“If they’ve got Martin O’Neill in place, they have to back him in the summer, they have to let him wheel and deal to get the players in he feels he needs to get them into the top positions.

Sheffield United boss reveals what ref told him about dismissal of Nottingham Forest's Benalouane
