Nottingham Forest 'target' to make final decision soon as Sunderland 'table contract offer'

Nottingham Forest 'target' Lawrence Shankland is expected to make a final decision on his future once he has returned from holiday.

The 23-year-old is set to have his pick from a list of potential suitors after his 34-goal campaign for Ayr United last season saw him attract plenty of rumoured interest, including from Martin O'Neill.

Now Sunderland have reportedly tabled a contract offer for the free agent.

The Scottish Sun's report also revealed that south coast Portsmouth are interest in making a move for the forward who has also been linked with Hearts, Hull City, Rangers and Celtic already this summer.

Last week, Shankland's former manager Ian McCall told BBC Scotland that there were three clubs who have been in contact with the ex-Scotland Under-21 international.

“One of them, it’s a club in Scotland and you need to be really mentally strong," he said.

"There are a couple of pretty sizeable clubs in England where I’m pretty sure he would play. One in particular would suit him, a sleeping giant type club .

“He has three now to choose from.”
