Nottingham Forest 'target' tipped to complete Leeds United move in January

Former England international Darren Bent believes Jack Clarke is ‘miles away’ from the standard at Leeds United and will leave in January.

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for the winger, who completed a £9.5m move to Tottenham from Leeds in the summer.

The 18-year-old was loaned back to Elland Road as part of the deal, but has yet to have any impact under Marcelo Bielsa and has failed to play a single Championship fixture.

It has been reported that Spurs are likely to recall Clarke in January, but that was before Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in a move that shocked the footballing world.

However, Bent feels that Clarke needs to focus on getting minutes in the Championship, instead of looking to happenings in North London: “He needs to worry about getting in that Leeds team because he can’t get nowhere near it at the minute,” he told Football Insider.

“Before he worries about Mourinho, listen, he might have signed at Spurs but he’s miles away, absolutely miles away because he’s done himself no justice at Leeds. How can he expect, if he can’t get in Leeds’ team, how can he expect to go and get in Spurs’ team?

“It’s not going to happen so he needs to somehow get minutes at Leeds, start playing week in, week out or if January comes and goes: ‘It’s not working for me,’ go somewhere else and play games.”
