Nottingham Forest look set to miss out on a transfer for Middlesbrough’s Marcus Tavernier, with AFC Bournemouth reportedly agreeing a deal for the midfielder.
Reports earlier this month claimed that Forest had made a £10 million bid for the player in an attempt to sign him ahead of the Premier League season. That offer was however rejected by ‘Boro as they attempted to keep their key player beyond this summer.
It now seems that fellow promoted side Bournemouth have stolen a march on Forest by putting in a bid of their own and agreeing a fee with Middlesbrough. According to the Telegraph, the Cherries are ‘close’ to signing Tavernier after a bid of around £12 million was accepted.

It is said that the midfielder is scheduled to undergo his medical at the Vitality Stadium in the next 24 hours as Bournemouth look to complete the deal. It means that Forest will have to move quickly should they wish to hijack the agreement.
The 23-year-old scored five times and registered four assists in the Championship last season and caught his eye with his performances. It now seems that he will get a chance to show what he can do in the Premier League.
It was said that Middlesbrough weren’t expecting to sell any more big names this summer after cashing in on former Forest loanee Djed Spence. It now seems that the offer from Bournemouth was too good to turn down.
