Nottingham Forest target Scott McKenna 'hands in transfer request' at Aberdeen

Nottingham Forest target Scott McKenna has reportedly handed in a transfer request at Aberdeen.

The Reds, along with Championship rivals QPR, are understood to have already had bids – believed to be in the region of £3m – for the defender turned down this summer.

And Dons boss Derek McInnes confirmed, after his team’s 3-2 victory over Hearts yesterday, that Rangers had made a fresh offer on Friday.

The Scottish Sun now claim McKenna has told the club he wants to move on, with a matter of days to go before the English transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday.

Hull City, Stoke City, Aston Villa and Celtic have also previously had an interest in the 22-year-old.

Academy product McKenna still has four years left to run on his contract at Pittodrie, having signed an extension in March 2018.

The Scottish club are said to value the centre-back at somewhere around the £7-10m mark.

Aberdeen manager McInnes admitted at the weekend he was not sure if McKenna would make the trip to Croatia for a Europa League third round qualifier against HRK Rijeka on Thursday.

He said: “Will Scott be on the plane? Who knows.

“But as it stands, if there is no other action he will be.

“There was a fresh offer.

“I don’t know if there was a written offer from Nottingham Forest but there certainly was from QPR on Friday – but clearly it wasn’t enough.

“It was a slight increase and it was structured in a certain way but it was not enough for the club to accept.

“Scott’s had a lot to contend with but his performances have been great.

“It’s up to the buying club to make my chairman think differently but as it stands Scott will remain with us.”

Forest have made eight signings so far this summer, but head coach Sabri Lamouchi said after his side’s opening day defeat to West Bromwich Albion: “We are looking for opportunities to make signings.”

The Reds already have a number of central defenders on the books, but are short on left-footed options – a void McKenna could help to fill.

A right-back is also on the club’s shopping list before the window shuts, as well as, potentially, a striker.
