Nottingham Forest target Sam Byram signs for Norwich City

Former Nottingham Forest loanee Sam Byram has signed for Norwich City in a reported £750,000 deal.

The West Ham United defender had been a target for the Reds this summer, following an impressive loan spell in the Garibaldi – though, in the meantime, there has been a managerial change at the City Ground as Sabri Lamouchi replaced Martin O’Neill at the helm.

But the full-back has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Canaries, with Sky Sports reporting a £750,000 fee was involved.

The right-back’s future with the Hammers had always looked to be in some doubt since he returned from his time on the banks of the River Trent.

He was linked with West Bromwich Albion earlier this summer, with reports he and teammate Jordan Hugill had been offered to Forest’s Championship rivals as makeweights in a £10m bid for Salomon Rondon.

And Byram was one of three players left out of the squad for a pre-season tour to China this month, for the Premier League Asia Trophy tournament – despite having previously travelled to Switzerland for a 10-day training camp.

The 25-year-old found himself firmly down the pecking order for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, with Ryan Fredericks, Pablo Zabaleta and youngster Ben Johnson ahead of him.

Byram made eight appearances for the Reds, with his campaign hampered by a knee injury which required surgery.

He is Norwich's fourth new addition and has already met up with the squad on a pre-season camp in Germany.
