Nottingham Forest 'target' rated 'a safe bet' by Reds new technical director Francois Modesto

Nottingham Forest’s newly-appointed technical director Francois Modesto played a key role in Hugo Cuypers' move from Olympiacos to French second division club Ajaccio.

Cuypers has been linked with a January move to the City Ground when the transfer window opens, with the Reds keen to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the Championship campaign.

Modesto, who along with Jose Anigo had his job at Forest confirmed this week, in his previous role as sporting director at Olympiacos, recommended the 22-year-old Belgian youngster to Ajaccio manager Olivier Pantaloni, and the short-term move to the Ligue 2 has worked out well so far.

The Belgian Under-19 international has netted four times in four games, bagging two braces in what’s been a fine start to the season.

“I did not know him (Cuypers)," said Ajaccio boss Pantaloni.

“It was with our discussions with François Modesto about Abdou Keita that I told him that I was looking for an additional striker.

“He told me about Hugo Cuypers who had spent a season in the club where he was loaned.

“He told me it was a safe bet for Ligue 2, so I jumped at the chance to recruit him."
