Nottingham Forest 'target' Macauley Bonne addresses his future

Leyton Orient and Zimbabwe striker Macauley Bonne has been speaking about his future amid interest from a list of Premier League and Championship clubs.

On Monday, it was reported by talkSPORT that the one-time Forest target, who has been in inspired form in the National League this season was being chased by Charlton Athletic, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough.

Forest were first rumoured to be chasing the ex-Norwich youth star back in November while under the management Spanish boss Aitor Karanka.

Now it seems Premier League duo Sheffield United and Leicester City, amongst others, have joined the race to land the forward who is understood to have a £200,000 release clause at Brisbane Road.

Despite the flattering interest, Bonne told talkSPORT that he is not tempted by a summer move, instead hell-bent on continuing his scoring form in League Two and proving to old club Colchester United that they were wrong to let him go.

“I took a step down out of the league to prove that I could play minutes and score goals,” he said.

“Now we’re back in the Football League, it’s my chance to show everyone, especially at Colchester, what I can do back in the Football League.

"I hoped they would have given me more of a chance but that’s football – it doesn’t go the way you always want it to go.

“I can’t thank everyone at Orient enough for doing that for me. Now I can show everyone in League Two what I can do, hopefully.

Former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka should avoid emotional return, says Reds legend

“Where else would I want to be? I’m the main man at the minute. My eyes aren’t being wondered whatsoever."

He added: “I’d say we’re just as good or even better than some of the teams in there. I see us doing that next season if we all stick together.”
