Nottingham Forest target Jack Colback now expected to stay at Newcastle United

Jack Colback is expected to stay at Newcastle United for the new season rather than go out on loan.

Midfielder Colback looked set to leave the Premier League club this summer when Rafa Benitez was in charge at St James' Park, with Nottingham Forest keen on signing him following two impressive loan spells at the City Ground.

But the 29-year-old's situation looks to have completely changed in the wake of Benitez's departure and the arrival of new boss Steve Bruce, who has managed Colback previously at Sunderland.

Having been frozen out by Benitez, Colback has played in the Premier League Asia Trophy for Newcastle during pre-season, and also in their latest friendly against Preston.

And he is now being tipped to stay at the club for the upcoming season.

"Has one year left and I'd expect he will end up spending it on Tyneside rather than on loan."

"He is far from everyone's cup of tea, but midfielder Colback has impressed for United in pre-season," says Liam Kennedy, of The Shields Gazette.
