Nottingham Forest target Ivan Toney centre of fresh transfer claim

Nottingham Forest target Ivan Toney could be set to miss out on a move to Celtic and sign for "someone else", Peterborough United's director of football Barry Fry has revealed.

The Reds have been touted as one of many clubs hoping to sign the League One hotshot who is attracting interest both in the Championship and north of the border.

Celtic appeared to have overtaken Brentford in the race to sign the forward, but have so failed to agree a fee for the talented forward who is one of the brightest talents outside the top two divisions in England.

And Fry now says that Toney is close to moving elsewhere if Celtic don't hurry and thrash out a deal.

“They are running out of time now. The lad is very close to signing for someone else in the next couple of days,”  the club’s chief told The Scottish Daily Mail.

“Celtic would have been his preferred choice, but they are nowhere near it.

"I heard from Ivan’s agent to say Celtic were coming back.

“That was Sunday evening after their first game. They had heard Celtic would be coming back, but I haven’t heard anything.”

Toney scored 26 goals in 39 games  in all competitions last term, but Posh are now prepared to sell after they missed out on promotion to the Championship.
