Nottingham Forest 'target' attracting interest from England and Scotland

Josh Windass looks set to be on the move this summer, with his parent club Wigan relegated from the Championship after being deducted 12 points for entering administration and needing to raise funds.

Windass was heavily linked with a move to Nottingham Forest in January, and spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, with the Owls keen to see the forward return to Hillsborough ahead of next month's re-start.

Given his impressive form which saw him net three times in just nine games, other clubs have been alerted to his likely availability, and with him out of contract next summer, Wigan’s ability to command a significant fee has been somewhat reduced – it was reported in January that the Latics valued him at £500,000.

Neil Warnock is said to be keen on bringing the 26-year-old to Middlesbrough, while Windass’ former club Rangers have been credited with interest along with Bristol City.

Speaking late last month, Owls boss Garry Monk reiterated his desire to see Windass return to south Yorkshire.

"We will have to see at that point. Right now with Josh it is about him focusing on getting back to fitness,” he told Yorkshire Live.

"We will have to see at the end of this period of games where we are at and what we can do. We will have those conversations possibly.

"I think very highly of Josh and I think he would be a great asset for ourselves. Those conversations will come further down the line if and when."
