Nottingham Forest 'target' American international defender

Nottingham Forest are reportedly targeting American international Reggie Cannon to bolster their ranks in the full-back position.

The 23-year-old right-back was part of both successful United States squads that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup and Nations League this summer.

The defender currently plays his club football for Boavista in Portugal after signing from FC Dallas last September for a reported fee of $3 million.

Since joining the club based in Portugal, Cannon has been a first-team regular at either right full-back or the right side of midfield.

This versatility meant he missed just three of 36 matches for the club in all competitions as they finished 13th in the Primera Liga.

According to The Telegraph's Mike McGrath, this impressive form over the summer and in the 11 months since he made the move to Europe has caught the attention of Forest.

One American international has already made the move to Trentside this summer in the shape of Ethan Horvath, who would be one immediately familiar face at the club for Cannon.

The pair lined up together in two international friendlies this summer against Switzerland and Costa Rica, as well as sharing the pitch to see out the final 15 minutes of July's Nations League final against Mexico.
