Nottingham Forest take step closer to completing £18m transfer

Nottingham Forest could be on the verge of signing a fourth Brazilian player as they seek to complete a deal for Angelo Gabriel before the transfer deadline.

Reports in Brazil suggest that Santos have agreed to loan the forward to the Reds, with a buy-out clause inserted into the deal that will be activated if the club stay in the Premier League this season. The Série A outfit are awaiting official paperwork from Forest before it can be completed, according to journalist André Hernan.

Gabriel, who is just 18-years-old, came through Santos' academy before being promoted to the first-team at the age of 15, becoming the youngest player of Santos to do so. He has so far featured in all of Santos' games following the start of Campeonato Paulista earlier this month.

Forest reportedly had an initial €15 million (£13m) bid rebuffed for the player. The Reds were then said to have increased their offer to €18m (£16m).

Brazilian duo Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo have already made the switch from Brazil to the East Midlands this January, moving from Palmeiras. Another compatriot in Renan Lodi joined on loan from Atletico Madrid in the summer, while defender Felipe is said to be close to reuniting with the full-back.
