Nottingham Forest take major step to solve injury crisis with Premier League plea

Nottingham Forest have asked the Premier League for permission to add defender Steve Cook to their 25-man squad for the remainder of the season.

Teams in the top flight submitted squad lists to the Premier League shortly after the January transfer window closed, with Cook among the players omitted from Forest's pool of players.

However, the club did not foresee both Willy Boly and Scott McKenna suffering long-term injuries at the same time - a few minutes into last week's defeat at Fulham - and are now taking emergency steps to try to rectify the situation.

According to the Telegraph, Forest have submitted an application to the Premier League for Cook to be added to their squad. They claim Forest will take the rare step of disclosing Boly's medical documentation to the Premier League in the hope that it will boost their chances of their application being successful.

McKenna faces six weeks on the sidelines while Boly has been ruled out for up to three months, leaving just January recruit Felipe and Joe Worrall as the Reds only fit senior centre-backs.

The decision is now in the hands of officials at the Premier League, with Forest hoping to hear back before noon on Friday - the deadline by which Cook must be registered to play against Manchester City on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
