Nottingham Forest summer transfer target emerges after Serie A breakthrough

Nottingham Forest have been linked with interest in Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno ahead of the summer transfer window.

Toro News has already claimed that Steve Cooper has shown interest in the 23-year-old centre-back who scored a goal and popped up with two assists in his breakthrough season for the Serie A side.

Italian outlet Calciomercato has added further weight to the speculation, claiming Bournemouth have joined the Reds in the hunt for his signature, while Tuttosport cites Brentford as another interested party from the Premier League, alongside Forest and the Cherries.

The promising young centre-half came up through the youth ranks at Torino with the club said to be determined to ‘try to ward off’ the advances of potential suitors by offering a new contract to Buongiorno, whose current deal expires in 2025.

The imposing youngster, who stands at 6ft 4 ins tall, has been one of Toro’s big success stories this season under coach Ivan Juric and risen up through the Italy international youth ranks from under-18s through to the 21s. Buongiorno received his first official call-up to the senior Italian national team for two UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches against England and Malta, scheduled later this year.
