Nottingham Forest submit bid to secure fourth summer transfer

Nottingham Forest have submitted a bid for Reading defender Tom Holmes.

NottinghamshireLive's colleagues at BerkshireLive report that the 21 year-old is a transfer target for Forest.

Holmes is in the final year of his contract at the Madejski Stadium with talks ongoing with Veljko Paunovic's side about a new deal.

The Reading academy graduate is said to want to sign a new deal with his boyhood side.

A report has claimed that Forest opened talks over a £1.5 million move but BerkshireLive say that they do not believe the bid is as high as that.

Holmes enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, making 40 outings for Reading with most of those appearances coming in an unfamiliar position of right-back.

Holmes has only played two minutes of Championship football so far this season, coming when he was substituted on for the closing stages of a game against Stoke City on the opening day of the season.

The player did captain Reading in the Carabao Cup game against Swansea City last week though, playing all of the 3-0 defeat.

Reading do not want to lose the player with Paunovic operating under a transfer embargo because of financial fair play rules.

He has only made one signing so far this summer, Tom Dele-Bashiru arriving on a season-long loan deal.

As far as Forest are concerned a move for Holmes, 21, would add depth to Chris Hughton's centre-back ranks.

Forest have made three summer signings so far, adding Ethan Horvarth, Philip Zinckernagel and Jordi Osei-Tutu from Club Brugge, Watford and Arsenal respectively.

Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna, Loic Mbe Soh and Tobias Figueiredo are the centre-back options currently available to Hughton.
