Nottingham Forest striker 'target' a free agent after rejecting contract extension

Reported Nottingham Forest target Brown Ideye is a free agent after apparently rejecting the offer of a contract extension in Greece.

The former West Bromwich Albion striker saw his deal with Greek Super League side Aris Thessaloniki come to an end on Tuesday.

Allnigeriasoccer.com say he turned down the chance to see out the remainder of the campaign - which has continued beyond the end of his contract due to the coronavirus pandemic - with the club.

The report says he has “ended his association” with Aris “despite the club offering him an extension until the end of the 2019-20 season”.

The 31-year-old has bagged eight goals in 26 appearances this term, having joined Aris last summer.

As well as the Baggies, he has also previously represented fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned outfit Olympiacos.

He was unable to feature on Wednesday night as Aris lost 2-0 to Panathinaikos, and will also miss games against AEK Athens and Olympiacos.

He was linked with a switch to the City Ground back in March, with the Reds said to be 'in the running' for his signature.

And speaking about his future the following month, the forward said:  “When we get to the transfers we will see.

“There are a lot of rumours and I'm not surprised about that.

“I'm not thinking about it next season, before we finish this year.

"I'm not thinking about making more money.

“I had better suggestions and I turned them down to come to Aris.

“I am interested in the environment, to be happy - me, my family.”
