Nottingham Forest striker called out as transfer 'target' learns fate

Former Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson has called out Lewis Grabban for making the 'wrong choice' in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Reading.

Grabban had the best chance of the match to double Forest's lead after Philip Zinckernagel put the Reds ahead inside five minutes.

His effort was eventually cleared off the goal-line by Reading defender Liam Moore just after half-time, but on closer inspection, Jack Colback, who has been amongst the goals as of late, was on hand to tap in a lay off should the striker have taken that option.

Scott Dann equalised later in the half as the Royals picked up a point, and Johnson was far from pleased at the striker for costing his side all three.

'Target' learns transfer fate

Nottingham Forest have again been linked with interest in former Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster.

The 21-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Championship rivals Sheffield United after the Blades paid a club-record transfer fee of £23.5m for the highly-rated player in 2020 when former Bramall Lane boss Chris Wilder hailed him as one of the country’s “hottest properties.”

Brewster, who was an unused sub in the goalless draw with Coventry City on Saturday, has managed just eight league appearances this season under Slavisa Jokanovic.

The Serbian boss insisted in October that Brewster would not be leaving in January.

Forest served transfer reminder

There was a different feel about Steve Cooper's post-match debrief on Saturday. Where his press conferences usually strike a positive and upbeat tone, the Nottingham Forest boss was a little more reflective on this occasion.

"Bit serious today. Sorry," he signed off with at the end.

Not that any apology was necessary. Being quizzed on missed chances, set-piece defending and a potential injury blow was never going to make for the most buoyant of interviews. And Cooper's reaction was a sign of his frustration at having to settle for a 1-1 draw against Reading.

When Philip Zinckernagel had slalomed his way through the Royals defence and thumped in a fantastic shot, it had looked as though another win was on the cards for the Reds. That was the perfect start, four minutes in at the Madejski Stadium.

Nottingham Forest were left frustrated at not coming away with all three points as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Reading.

Philip Zinckernagel had got the Reds off to the perfect start at the Madejski Stadium, netting a stunning goal inside the opening five minutes.

Forest needed some strong saves from Brice Samba to keep them in front at the break, though, as the Royals grew into the game.

Lewis Grabban then missed a great chance to make it 2-0 in the second half, being left to rue that missed opportunity as Scott Dann went on to level from a corner.

And although the visitors did create some decent chances to take the lead again, they had to settle for a stalemate on their return from the international break.

Here's what head coach Steve Cooper said at the full-time whistle.
